Friends,

Nutrition Program this Friday
Alison Tierney from Wholesome LLC will be here again this Friday @ 11:00am for our nutrition program.

The format of our nutrition program is very interactive.  You will learn from others and from Alison.  You’ll get opportunities to ask your own questions as well in this interactive format.

There’s a lot of research pointing to the cause of MS and many other autoimmune diseases being caused by the microbiomes in our gut.  Alison has dug very deep into this subject and will be sharing lots of information about our gut health, why it’s so critical for us living with MS and what we can do about it now.  I hope you will join us so you can benefit from this information.  This is going to be an interesting session.

It seems like we have many people being challenged with digestive challenges right now.  Hopefully you can get some suggestions that you can apply right away.  Again, I hope you’ll join us.

How are you handling the heat?
Summer is here and the heat is generally NOT real MS friendly for those of us living with MS.  Lately, for me, the heat has been zapping me of energy and causing fatigue.  Does that mean we avoid the heat?  That’s probably a good choice if you can’t tolerate it.  We’re all different and we need to listen to our bodies.

It seems like heat can flair up our MS symptoms but studies show it does not make our MS as a disease worse.  I like to get out in the heat in short intervals at first and then gradually build my endurance up as the season goes on.  Usually, my body adapts to it as the summer goes on.

On some of the hot bike rides I go on, my legs will start burning and then turn into neurological pain, weakness and fatigue.  Finally, they’ll shut down and I’ll need to lay in the ditch and recover a bit before going any further.  It’s scary at the time but I do recover and I’m generally ok the next day.  If I stand on ice with my bare feet when it does this, that generally helps immensely.

If you take a water bottle or two and put them in the freezer, they work great for me when that neurogical burning sensations or pain needs some attention.  I just roll the frozen water bottles on the ground or floor with my bare feet.  This works well for me.  Hopefully it will work well for you too.  Give it a try…it’s free and it’s refreshing.

As far as the gym goes, we have air conditioning at the gym so you don’t need to worry about the heat once you get here.  In other words, don’t let the heat keep you from joining us 😊

Golf Outing – THANK YOU!
Again, thank you to everyone who donated raffle items, silent auction items, sponsored holes, participated, volunteered, gave donations, etc.  The golf outing was a great success for our MS-Just Keep Moving, Inc. non-profit due to your contributions.  It would not have been with you.  THANK YOU!

Let’s get together!
We’ll be getting together again from 9:00am – noon on Wednesday and Friday mornings at the gym.  I hope you’ll join us!

Prayer Group  We’ll be having our prayer group Wednesday @ 11:00am.
I just love the way we share, pray together and witness prayers being answered weekly.  It’s amazing!  Thanks goes to God and to everyone that joins us.  Let’s get together to share, listen, talk, give thanks and pray however God leads us.

Friday Morning Bike Rides
Let’s ride as long as it’s not raining.  We’ll be meeting Friday morning at 7:00am at Nettesheim Park in Pewaukee.  It’s on the SE corner of Hwy SS and Oak Street.  The GPS address is:  N26W27495 Prospect Ave, Pewaukee, WI 53072.  Come a little early so you can get your bike out of your car and be ready to ride as close to 7:00 as possible.  We’ll ride until about 8:45.  Let’s ride and have some fun!

If you join us on a Friday morning bike ride, you’ll experience something that’s not real common.  If you need a little help from friends getting up a hill, you’ll get it.  Fun rides!

We rode some pretty long hills last week.  Keep in mind…hills are your friend.  They make you stronger.  If you don’t believe me, ask Jerry Huhn about it.  He’s drilled that into my head for years.  Right Jerry?  I’m just sharing it with you.

Check out the fist bump between Melissa and Jason for encouragement as Traci and Pete push with all their might.  Everyone on the trikes are giving it their all.  Amazing!

It was a beautiful day for a ride.  When we ride early, we beat the heat 😊.

For those of you who wish you could join us but can’t; please know we have you in our hearts on these rides.  We’re riding with you and for you.  I hope you too can join us someday.  We really need to get this MS thing figured out.  Let’s keep working on it together.

MS Bike Ride – It’s time to get excited about the MS Bike Ride August 6th and 7th.  This is going to be a fun ride with fun rest areas and inspirational stories of progress being made at the tent celebration Saturday night.

It supports a great cause that’s near and dear to all our hearts…the National MS Society who puts on amazing events like this and raises money to fund much needed research and programs for people with MS.  That’s us, whether we want MS or not.

We need more research so we have more protocols to put into action with our MS-Just Keep Moving family.  These emerging therapies and protocols are developed as a result of research funded by the National MS Society.

Here’s a link with more information about the bike ride.  https://mssociety.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=15874

You can sign up on our Peppy Pedaler’s team from this link.  Sign up early because the price keeps going up the closer we get to the event.

Let’s see how many people who love someone with MS we can get to ride as well as people that actually have MS on our Peppy Pedaler’s team this year.  Actually, it doesn’t matter which team you ride on; there are many great people on all the teams but we’d love to have you on our Peppy Pedaer’s Team.  I’d encourage you to ride on some team and help us raise money for the National MS Society while having a fun day of riding together.

MS Just Keep Caring – Our Caregivers support group will be the first and third Friday of each month from 10:00 – 10:30am.  The next one will be Friday, July 1st.  If you’re a caregiver of someone you love with MS, please join us and share your experience of caring for your loved one.  This has been very helpful for many.  Thanks to all who participate!

COVID   We’ve all been dealing with this long enough and are very well educated on it by now.  Let’s make good choices and be safe.

Please stay home if you have any symptoms or know you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus.  Please don’t come until your symptoms go away.  Let’s also give each other some space when talking to one another and continue wiping the machines down before and after you use them with disinfectant.  Again…let’s be socially responsible and stay safe!

Our Facebook page is now private.  That means you’ll need to join if you want access to all our fun and progress.  Lots of people are doing more and more and sharing of their journey on Facebook.  Feel free to join and share your experience and comments.  We’re now up to 219 members…awesome!   https://www.facebook.com/groups/2639832389489709

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt  Ricky will be here Wednesday and Friday again this week doing Thai Massage.  Ricky says he is comfortable to work with you even if you’re not wearing a mask.  Ricky will continue to wear one to protect you.

Many continue making great progress with chronic pain relief, range of motion, walking better and a new sense of hope when Ricky works with them.  Please keep in mind that consistency is key.  Not only with Ricky…with exercise too.  We need consistency to realize the benefits long term.  We want you to have long term relief.

Ricky has a sign up sheet based on first come first serve.  You can pick the time slot that works for you.  I highly encourage you to take advantage of Ricky’s Thai Massages each day and sign up for your time slot as soon as you get there.

Reiki with Linda  Linda will be here on Fridays doing Reiki.  Many people say Linda’s Reiki work is “magical”.  We’re thankful for Linda offering her gifts and talents to us.  Feel free to let Linda know you’d like to do Reiki with her.  She also has a sign up sheet.

Linda is also teaching a Reiki Class this Saturday.  Here’s a message from Linda about it and more info:
If you have ever wanted to learn how to give Reiki treatments to yourself, others and even animals; Linda C is holding a Reiki class at the horse farm this coming Saturday, 12-5pm. See the flyer for more details. All you need is one working hand. It will be warm as the class is held outside! Please RSVP, or if you have any questions, directly to Linda at lckamaria4@gmail.com.

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you haven’t talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they’re doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices.

Let’s keep moving and smiling 😊

In God We Trust…we’re in good hands

P.S.  Sometimes it’s fun to take pictures of weeds

And a piece of tall grass

And churches.  I had some fun with the camera and the lighting God provided this past week.  The simple joys of life…
