Wednesday and Friday Workouts – “Giving Tuesday, Some Options”!

Friends,

Giving Tuesday – Today, December 2nd
We would love it if you would consider our MS-Just Keep Moving, Inc. mission.  If you know me at all, you know that I don’t like asking people for money but I really appreciate when people support us.  It’s critical to our mission that we continue to do what we do for free for people with MS.  Because of MS, many of our friends with MS are on disability of some sort and very limited income.  If we had to charge people to come, many would not be able to.

If you’re able and willing, please consider MS-Just Keep Moving, Inc. as a beneficiary to your Giving Tuesday or yearend giving.  100% of your contribution will go directly to our mission of helping people with MS.

Here are some ways you can give:

So many of you have and continue to support us each year with volunteering, financial support, etc.  THANK YOU! We appreciate you and wouldn’t be able to do what we do without your love and support.

Our Bake / Craft Sale – This Wednesday and Friday
If you’re willing to bake something for the bake sale, we would appreciate it.  Please bring your baked goods in individually wrapped and ready for sale Tuesday afternoon 12/2 or Wednesday morning 12/3.

If you’re willing to support us during the bake / craft sale, please bring cash or check.  Most of our vendors do not take credit cards.  Please invite your family / friends to come support us.

Shoe Donations
Do you have any shoes you can donate?  Becky Thomas is collecting old or new shoes supporting Soles for Jesus.  These shoes will be distributed to people in need of shoes in Africa.  She dropped off a box for us to drop them in.  Please bring in shoes if you have any extras.

How did Rick do last week?
Rick had another milestone last week.  He wanted to see if the rejuvenation therapy would have an effect on his ability to lift his legs.  He started out on the parallel bars where he could lift each leg a little.  That alone was encouraging because many days, he cannot do that.

Rick did the rejuvenation therapy for 20 minutes and then he was able to walk up and down the stairs not only once, not only twice but three times with a minimal break in between each climb.  It was pretty incredible.  After a short break, he walked 300 feet.

Great job Rick!  Thanks for sharing your journey with us.

I’m really thankful JoAnn Schmitz came in and taught us about the lymphatic system and what she teaches patients when they come to her.  It’s been fun putting her knowledge to use and seeing the results.  Thanks JoAnn!

Rebounding on the trampoline pumps our lymphatic system in our entire body as well.

Nutrition Program
This week, Janine and our nutrition program covered the topic of Milk Alternatives.  Why would we use a milk alternative?  How can we do that?

Here’s a link to the handout:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iK5DYh7fX58UKRyf0n2fzAbHNIn8P1rW/view?usp=drive_link

Janine puts a lot into these presentations.  It’s wonderful for her to share these presentations with those who can’t be here.  It’s even more impactful for people who can be here in person to get the information first hand and be able to get questions answered and learn from others living with MS.

Here’s a recipe Janine shared:
Fluffy Oat Milk Pancakes (Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free)
Ingredients
1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour (or almond flour for extra protein)
1 tbsp baking powder1 tbsp maple syrup (or honey if not strictly vegan)
1 cup oat milk (or almond/coconut milk if preferred)
1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
1 Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
2 Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, stir together oat milk, maple syrup, coconut oil, and vanilla.
3 Combine & whisk: Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients. Stir until just combined (don’t overmix).
4 Cook pancakes: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Pour 1⁄4 cup batter for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form, then
flip and cook until golden brown.
5 Serve: Stack pancakes and top with fresh fruit, nut butter, or extra maple syrup.

I would highly encourage you to engage in our nutrition program Monday mornings @ 9:00am so you can benefit at a high level.  All are encouraged to come; people with MS, loved ones, care takers, volunteers, etc.

Thank you, Janine!

Friday Morning Bike Rides
We had a great season of bike riding from spring until fall.  We are done for the season.

Let’s think spring so we can get back out there again!  Until Spring…Let’s Bounce 😊 Check out our rebounding opportunities.

Research Needs us!
Marquette University, UW Milwaukee, University of Illinois, and Carroll University have research opportunities they would like us to engage in.  We have flyers and more information about these opportunities at the gym and inserted below.  Please engage in these opportunities if you qualify.  You could make improvements yourself and you could be helping so many other people with MS as they face their challenges.  We really need to get this MS thing figured out and you can help by engaging in these research opportunities.

You get paid $180.00 to do this one and it’s all done online.

Educational Sessions
This Friday, 12/5 11:00 – 12:00pm: Emma Dressel and Jordan Scheidecker from The Ability Center will present to us about their mission and the four programs they offer. They will showcase a few of their sport chairs, as well as sit volleyball & goalball to set up and try out those adaptive games.

Friday 1/9/26 11:00 – 12:00pm: Dave DiTorrice, certified orthotist, will speak to us about orthotics devices, evaluations from orthotists, and any questions related to orthotic disease or conditions.

Future topics could include: emotional health, nutrition, yoga, tai chi, wellness topics, safe use of gym equipment for your body, best exercise for you and more.  What topics would you like to see?  Please let Dr Kate, Joan, Traci, Ricky or Dan know.

Prayer Group  We’ll be having our prayer group Wednesday from 11:00am – noon.
I just love the way we share, pray and laugh together while we witness prayers being answered weekly.  It’s truly amazing!

Thanks goes to God and to everyone that joins us.  Let’s get together to share, listen, talk, give thanks, and pray however God leads us.

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.

Let’s keep moving, smiling, and loving 😊  It helps!

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.  We finally got some snow so I had a little fun with the camera and the snow.  Last week, I cut a little cross out of a walnut branch.  I set it on a rock before it snowed, not knowing what it would look like when it snowed.

This bird seemed to like it

This picture is a little blurry but I thought it was fun

Here’s a cute Bluejay

Everyone seems to like cardinals 😊

Here’s a female

These two were having some fun together

It’s challenging to take pictures when it’s snowing out.  These seagulls didn’t like flying when it was snowing

It looked like winter wonderland out in the woods

This was when the sun started coming out.  Lighting makes a big difference

Here’s a fun picture of the cross Pam’s Uncle Fred gave me

For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I’m out there.  I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
