Wednesday and Friday Workouts – ‘Soon, Our Open House’!

Friends,

Open House – Saturday, November 7th
We will be having our Open House on November 7th.  We hope you will join us and invite anyone you know who would be:

We couldn’t even consider doing all we are doing without our friends with MS who join us, our selfless and loving volunteers and our supporters who support us financially and donated equipment, services, etc.

Traditional Medicine Conversation
Thanks to Somananda Yogi for presenting to our group last week about traditional medicine, Triple Wisdom Preservation for their organization efforts, and Nyani Amaya for making it all happen.

Somananda Yogi was here again last Friday to answer questions about traditional medicines and protocols used for treating people.  It’s interesting to hear how people are treated in different countries and cultures.

I love how Somananda listens to questions, thinks about it for a bit and then answers the question in a way that makes so much sense.  I hope our friends with MS found this beneficial in some way.  Thanks, Nyani for making Somananda’s visit possible for us.

Bryant and Stratton Students  – Here two more weeks
We are fortunate to have the Bryant & Stratton College Physical Therapy Assistant students and their leaders here with us this week and next week yet.

This has been such a great experience for the students and our friends with MS.  Let’s share our love and appreciation with them.

Landscape Makeover
Each year a local landscape association chooses a non-profit and gets together and does a landscape makeover for them.  This year, we had friends and one of our friends with MS nominate us for this gift.  They did this for us this past week.  WOW!  What a gift!  I will be getting the names of all the people and companies that did this for us.  Let’s thank them by referring them to friends that could use some landscape services.

New Tai Massage Service starting this week
Nyani is here on Tuesdays 9-12pm to offer Thai Massage Services!  Please take advantage of this additional free service to you provided by MS-Just Keep Moving.  Nyani is very passionate about helping our friends with MS.  We want to see you benefit from this and all our other programs.

Thursday Morning Walk
We had a beautiful walk last Thursday as the fall colors are becoming more vibrant.  The early morning walkers get to experience the sun coming up and bringing out the bright colors.

The 9:00 group brings such a great spirit.  We all enjoy these walks together.

October is a beautiful month to walk.  Please join us.

We will be back at St Anthony’s again this week.  If you would like to walk further next year at the Day of Endurance, now would be a great time to start walking with us.  We all learned that if we want to walk better or further, we need to walk more.  I know, that’s easier said than done for many of us living with MS.  Let’s work hard at it…together.

The long-distance walkers will be starting at 6:30 am.  The rest of us will be starting at 9:00am.  We will be starting from St. Anthony’s parking lot.

St Anthony’s Church
W280N2101 Prospect Avenue
Pewaukee, WI 53072

Come a few minutes early so we can start walking as close to the starting time you choose as possible.  Bring water and dress accordingly.

For those who wish they could walk but can’t, we are walking for you and have you on our minds and in our hearts on these walks.

Friday Morning Bike Ride
Looking at the weather for this Friday, it looks like it will be too cold and windy.  29 degrees? That’s too cold.  We will not be riding.

These bike rides are amazing!  I love it how we all get to ride together.  We will watch the weather next week yet.  The extended forecast looks like it will be warmer next week.  Let’s hope that’s true and we can get another ride in.

We had another great year of riding together.  It’s hard to believe we started in April this year and made it all the way through the spring, summer and this far into the fall already.  We had a fun group again last week 😊.  Truly amazing!

For those who wish you could join us but can’t; please know we have you in our hearts on these rides.  We’re riding with you and for you.  I hope you too can join us someday.

 Nutrition Program.
Maria and the people who engage in our nutrition program discussed fats in even deeper depth this week and how essential they are.

If you are not engaging in our nutrition program, I would highly encourage you to do so.  At least read the handouts that Janine and Maria prepare for us each week and apply the information into your lifestyle.

Here’s a link to the full handout:

Nutrition – Google Drive

Janine and Maria put a lot into these presentations.  It’s wonderful for them to share these presentations with those who can’t be here.  It’s even more impactful for people who can be here in person to get the information first hand and be able to get questions answered and learn from others living with MS.

I would highly encourage you to engage in our nutrition program Monday mornings @ 9:00am so you can benefit at a high level.  All are encouraged to come; people with MS, loved ones, care takers, volunteers, etc.

Thank you, Janine and Maria!

Prayer Group  We’ll be having our prayer group Wednesday from 11:00am – noon.
I just love the way we share, pray and laugh together while we witness prayers being answered weekly.  It’s truly amazing!

Thanks go to God and to everyone that joins us.  Let’s get together to share, listen, talk, give thanks, and pray however God leads us.

MS-Just Keep Caring – Our Caregivers support group will be the first and third Friday of each month from 10:00 – 10:30am.  The next one will be this Friday, October 16th, 2026.  If you’re a caregiver of someone you love with MS, please join us and share your experience of caring for your loved one.  This has been very helpful for many.  Thanks to all who participate!

Member Spotlight – Maria Cairo
I always love it when new people join the gym and come consistently.  It’s great to hear how their lives are changing for the better.  Maria is a great example of that happening.  Why? Because she’s engaging in our programs and doing the hard work.  We realize it’s not easy.  Living with MS is certainly not easy either.  Thanks for coming, Maria and sharing your journey.  We’re thankful you’re here and making progress.  MS can be scary.

Ed and Adam’s Podcast
Adam and Ed did a podcast with Hope and Tony last week.  Hope and Tony are students from Bryant & Stratton College who have been here helping out.  It’s always great to hear the students perspective of being here.

What:  Do what you can

Shoe Donations
Do you have any shoes you can donate?  Becky Thomas is collecting old or new shoes supporting Soles for Jesus.  These shoes will be distributed to people in need of shoes in Africa.  Becky dropped off a box for us to drop them in.  Please bring in shoes if you have any extras.

Coughs, colds, flus, etc. – Let’s not share
There are a lot of bugs going around.  If you are experiencing any symptoms, please stay home and recover from them instead of sharing with the rest of us at the gym.  We look forward to you getting over it and having you back quickly.

Research Needs us!
Marquette University, UW Milwaukee, University of Illinois, and Carroll University have research opportunities they would like us to engage in.  We have flyers and more information about these opportunities at the gym.  Please engage in these opportunities if you qualify.  You could make improvements yourself and you could be helping so many other people with MS as they face their challenges.  We really need to get this MS thing figured out and you can help by engaging in these research opportunities.

Dr Ng Needs more participants
Dr Alex Ng from Marquette University reached out to me with this message.  I would highly encourage you to participate in this research if you’re able to.

 HI Dan,
I want to resend our study recruitment notice for our “singing study”.  We actually have two studies going and we can sort eligible participants into the best one for them.  Note that our age range has expanded to 20 to 80 yr.  Still not completely inclusive but a step in the right direction.  Any help you could give us to help get the word out would be appreciated!  Thanks for what you created for the MS community.

 Take care,
Alex

 Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.

Let’s keep moving, smiling, and loving 😊  It helps in many ways!

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.  Last Thursday, we were admiring the changing colors on our walk at St Anthony’s Church parking lot.

If you have any walnut trees near you, you probably see busy little squirrels harvesting the nuts.  This little guy was planting a walnut in our flower pot.

Saturday morning, I got up early and went out to see what the sunrise looked like.  The sky was clear so it wasn’t real dramatic but I some leaves that caught my attention.  They just needed a cross.

On Sunday morning, I went out to Delafield to see what the sunrise looked like at the lake we swim in for the Day of Endurance…Nagawicka Lake.  It took a while for the sun to get just in the right spot.  I waited it out and floated my cross in the water.  This one reminded me how busy and messy our lives can get but if we keep our faith, there’s always a light of hope.

I really liked ho that one turned out so I added a few words to it.

If you’re wondering where this was taken in Delafield, it’s right by this fountain.

Yesterday; Larry, Cal and I went to Horicon Marsh to see how the migration system was going.  We saw this horse on the way up and stopped for a picture.

We had an experience of a lifetime as we had a couple egrets really close to us when we went for a walk on the boardwalk.

This one flew right in front of Larry as he was taking a picture of it.  Pretty cool!

We also saw a family of Trumpeter Swans.  Like the swans, I love family time.

They’re beautiful birds.

When I pulled in my driveway, I had these two cranes waiting for me in the sunset.  It was quite the day.

For those who cannot get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I am out there.  I enjoy being able to share with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
