Friends,
Balance with MS is tough – let’s prevent falls
How many ways can we prevent falls and improve our balance and life with MS? The simple answer…a lot. We have lots of people trying different things. Some are having success with some things and others are having success with others. The people who are making the most progress are the people who are working hard at it.
As you can see here, Donna is working hard as she combines some balance exercises on a Bosu Ball, electrical stimulation with the Neubie and a little help from Steve and Diane.
The people who are engaging in the seated and standing balance classes that Dr Kate leads are also seeing improvements as well as the people who are engaging in our rebounding opportunities on the mini trampolines. Let’s continue to work hard to get this balance thing figured out and prevent falls.
Fayth Caruso’s Presentation last Friday
We were fortunate enough to have Fayth Caruso from Bellicon zoom in with us last Friday for an educational and inspirational presentation on the benefits of rebounding. Fayth also shared some of the success stories she’s been part of as people engage in rebounding. Fayth is really excited about our group and what we are doing with her videos and our friends with MS on the Bellicons.
Some of the key benefits Fayth covered along with why and her experiences are shown here.
Some of the key points Fayth made about fall prevention and rebounding are shown here.
Fayth played a video of Virginia, a person she worked with who started rebounding at 79 and is still bouncing on her Bellicon regularly. Virginia sounds like a fun person, it would be fun to do some bouncing with her. I found the link on YouTube in case you want to watch it. I would highly recommend it. It’s 2 minutes 54 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIbZH_7d2N0
We were really fortunate to have live demos from Joan, Pam and Ron demonstrating some of the progress each of them have made just recently. I had an opportunity to show Fayth some of the moves she taught us too. That was out of my comfort zone but it was kind of fun. I’m still uncoordinated but my life with MS has been impacted in a very positive way since I started rebounding regularly a year and a half ago.
I’m REALLY excited to see how many people with MS make life changing progress with their balance, energy, endurance and overall well-being by engaging in our rebounding opportunities.
Thank you, Fayth for sharing your gifts with us through your videos and being with us on zoom. We’re really excited about having you visit us in person in the near future.
Day of Endurance Training
I hope your training is going well. I know some are hitting it hard already and are well ahead of what they were doing last year at this time…good job! We get out of it what we put into it. Please turn your progress notes into Dr Kate bi-weekly.
Let’s make this journey and experience the best yet and have some fun…together. As we begin our training, let’s enjoy each day and record what we do on the packet we put together for you. If you didn’t get a packet, please see Dr Kate or me for your packet. We’re trying to make it really easy for you to record what you’re doing on a daily basis. These will be interesting for you to look back at a year from now. Hopefully, you can do more next year than you can this year.
Remember, try to do daily workouts and just one LONG workout each week. It’s on the one long day that you want to do just a little better than the week before and gradually build up each week.

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here on Wednesdays doing Thai Massage.
There is a sign-up board to be used to accommodate your needs for your exercise plan. Some people with spasticity need to be massaged / stretched out before they can exercise. Some people need a massage after a hard workout to loosen up their tight muscles or relieve pain.
We have limited spots for massages, please be considerate of people that need the massage the most in order to do the exercises they need to do or recover from the exercises they just did.
You can pick the time slot that works for you.
Reiki on Wednesdays and Fridays
Reiki is available at the gym, for FREE, on Wednesdays (Mary B, Jill K) and on Fridays (Linda C and Mary R), 9:30am until noon. Sessions typically last 20-30 minutes. Sign up for a session on the white board.
Reiki (ray-kee) relaxes the body so that healing can occur! The “magic” of Reiki has helped some of our members with pain, insomnia, constipation, and so much more! Try it the next time you are at the gym!

I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone. Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing. We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.
MS is tough. Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.
Let’s keep moving, smiling and loving It helps!

P.S. Last Thursday, Cal, Larry and I went for a ride to the Prairie Du Sac area. We saw a couple eagles flying together.
They sure are beautiful to watch
Sometimes a leaf in the water is beautiful in its own way.
As well as frozen in the ice
I’m still amazed at some of the ice formations when we are out there
I’m afraid we’re getting to the end of the ice pictures for the season.
The shoreline is melted in many places
We saw quite a few seagulls. They were challenging to get good pictures of them. I got lucky with this one.
And this one
We got some snow the other day. I thought it would be a good morning to go for a walk with the camera. It was beautiful.
I was lucky enough to see (and hear) these two sandhill Cranes singing together
The robins were not sure about the snow
Didn’t stop them from enjoying some berries
For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you. You are with me every time I’m out there. I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you. I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature. Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
