Wednesday and Friday Workouts – ‘Nice to see Joyce and Marlene’!

Friends,

I love it when friends are able to return
It was really nice to see Joyce and Marlene who have both been out healing up and trying to get back come in last Wednesday.  It was emotional for me.

Is our common bond MS or is it love for one another?  I say it’s both and the love shared is much more powerful.

Students are returning tomorrow
We are so fortunate to have the students and leaders of the Bryant and Stratton Physical Therapy Assistant program join us for the next ten weeks again.  They will be starting back tomorrow with a new group of students.

The students get a hands-on opportunity to help our friends with MS and learn about how MS affects people and how to help them.  Our friends with MS get to benefit from the students, their leaders and their expertise.  It’s win-win in so many ways.  Let’s give them a great experience filled with much love and gratitude.

Parking
As you have noticed, our parking lot has been full lately.  We have the students returning tomorrow and they will be parking across the street in the Acuity parking lot.  If there are any other able-bodied people willing to park across the street so people with mobility challenges can park in our lot, please do so.  We want to make it easy for people with mobility challenges to park and get into our building safely.  Thank you for doing that!

Does rebounding help with biking?
I personally took a big risk this past winter.  Usually, I do spin biking during the winter months to stay in biking shape so I can enjoy biking in the spring, summer and fall.  This past winter, I had such a great group of people joining me on the trampolines daily, I didn’t do any biking.  The trampolines are such a great total body workout that I felt I would be ok on the bike in the spring.

I’m happy to share that rebounding on the mini trampolines transferred over extremely well for biking.  I rode with friends Saturday, Monday and this morning this week.  I felt great and strong on the bike all three rides.  My MS behaved extremely well all winter and I feel good.

I have to give a big Thank You to Fayth Caruso from Bellicon for leading us through so many video workouts along with everyone that joined me at the gym in the mornings rebounding all winter.  I’m not the only one coming out of the winter stronger than I went into it.  Many people doing the rebounding consistently are doing the same.

If you want to learn more about it, join us at some of our rebounding opportunities.  Feel free to join in consistently.  Remember, consistency is key.

Golf Outing Donations
Great news!  Our golf outing is full with golfers and sponsors again this year…exciting!

Now we need to do a great job of creating a great experience for the golfers and sponsors.  We still need many items to create some great raffle baskets and silent auction items.  We will need these item in hand by the first week in June which is only 3-4 weeks away.  THANK YOU to all who are going out collecting donations for us!

This golf outing is a lot of fun and it’s our largest fundraising event of the year.  We are very fortunate and thankful to have our friends at ePlatinum Health putting this on for us again this year.

Please check out the sheets at the gym and let us know what you’re willing to go out and get donations for and bring them to the gym as soon as you have them.  Thanks so much!

Metals for MS program
We are starting a metals recycling program to help raise money for our mission.  You can help!  Save your aluminum cans and any other metals that can be recycled.  We have a drop off container outside our building.  Just drop them off in there and we have volunteers that will sort the metals and take them to a recycling center.  If you’d be willing to volunteer for this initiative, please let me know.  We could use another volunteer or two for this so it’s not so much work for one person.

Day of Endurance – Saturday, August 23rd 2025
I hope your training is going well.  I know some are hitting it hard already and are well ahead of what they were doing last year at this time…good job!  We get out of it what we put into it.  Please turn your progress notes into Dr Kate bi-weekly.

Let’s make this journey and experience the best yet and have some fun…together.  As we begin our training, let’s enjoy each day and record what we do on the packet we put together for you.  If you didn’t get a packet, please see Dr Kate or me for your packet.  We’re trying to make it really easy for you to record what you’re doing on a daily basis.  These will be interesting for you to look back at a year from now.  Hopefully, you can do more next year than you do this year.

Remember, try to do daily workouts and just one LONG workout each week.  It’s on the one long day that you want to do just a little better than the week before and gradually build up each week.

Ed and Adam’s Podcast
Adam and Ed had a random conversation with a few people at the gym last week.  They sure have fun making these.  I hope you enjoy them as much as they do.  😊

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here on Wednesdays doing Thai Massage.

There is a sign-up board to be used to accommodate your needs for your exercise plan.  Some people with spasticity need to be massaged / stretched out before they can exercise.  Some people need a massage after a hard workout to loosen up their tight muscles or relieve pain.

We have limited spots for massages, please be considerate of people that need the massage the most in order to do the exercises they need to do or recover from the exercises they just did.

You can pick the time slot that works for you.

Reiki on Wednesdays and Fridays
Reiki is available at the gym, for FREE, on Wednesdays (Mary B, Jill K) and on Fridays (Linda C and Mary R), 9:30am until noon. Sessions typically last 20-30 minutes. Sign up for a session on the white board.

Reiki (ray-kee) relaxes the body so that healing can occur! The “magic” of Reiki has helped some of our members with pain, insomnia, constipation, and so much more! Try it the next time you are at the gym!

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.

Let’s keep moving, smiling and loving 😊  It helps!

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.  This past week, I didn’t get out with the camera much.  I did get a chance to go to Boerner Botanical Center with my daughter Sam and Bonnie.  They have thousands of tulips in bloom.  Did you know you can check out a ticket to these beautiful gardens at local libraries and go for free?  That’s a good deal!

They had some colorful flowers in bloom

Sometimes, it’s fun to get really close and take a picture inside a flower.

Here is a nice-looking cardinal picture I captured this week.

I was looking at this hole in a tree wondering if whoever lives there could come out and play.  I didn’t stand there long enough to see who lives there.  Maybe next time.

These sandhill cranes sure were fun watching as they danced around.

This little woodpecker sure was making a lot of noise.

Tree swallows sure are fun watching.  This one landed for a picture.

This sandhill must have been tired.  I caught him yawning.

Do you go morel hunting?  It’s time to get out there.  They are just starting.  We found a few on Sunday.

For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I’m out there.  I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
