Friends,
Nutrition Program – first one was really good!
Our nutrition program is off to a much better start than I expected. It just warmed my heart to see that nearly 20 people showed up and engaged in it.
Janine did an excellent job of presenting and sharing her knowledge and experience with real life examples. The questions were excellent and Janine’s answers to the questions were simplified and understandable. We learned how the digestion system works, what each of our organs do and had some discussions about what’s good for our gut.
We will be having this nutrition program every Monday morning @ 9:00am going forward for 2025. If you weren’t able to make it Monday, you can ask some of the people that were there about it. If you’d like to learn how you can help yourself with nutrition, I would highly recommend you make it a priority to make it to the program each week if you’re able to. I can tell already this is going to be very beneficial to those who engage in it.
Thank you, Dr Kate and Janine for getting together and making this possible. Nutrition is so critical for us living with MS but unfortunately, there is no specific MS diet. We’re all different that’s why we are so fortunate to have Janine on board who can listen to us individually and give us advice based upon what we are dealing with. Let’s build this program into a healthy community of people living with MS, caregivers and volunteers based around nutrition that helps heal us from the inside. We’re off to a great start! Thank you to all who engaged.
Aquatic exercise program update
Our aquatic exercise program is going splashingly well. As we live with MS, there is so much more we can do in water with the buoyancy and resistance in the water than we can do on land where we have to be concerned about falling and lifting the limbs that don’t work so well. I’ve heard many comments about how fun it is and how beneficial it is. I love it when people say they can feel muscles they never knew they had…in a good way.
A huge thanks goes to Dr Kate and everyone that is showing up to make this possible. If you’re thinking about joining, I’d highly encourage you to at least show up and see what it’s all about…or just get in the pool and do it. You’ll love the people you’re with and it will certainly be beneficial. Details with times and location are below in this e-mail.
Golf Outing
Location and time:
Friday, June 20th, 2025
Wanaki Golf Course – Menomonee Falls
Registration – 7:30-9:00 am
Golfing – 9:00am
Our golf outing planning with our friends at ePlatinum Health is in full swing. This golf outing is a lot of fun and it’s our largest fundraising event of the year. We are very fortunate and thankful to have our friends at ePlatinum Health putting this on for us again this year.
Please check out the sheets at the gym and let us know what you’re willing to go out and get donations for. Thanks so much!
How can you help?
- We need some nice raffle and silent auction items. If you know a business that would like some visibility with a great group of people that is willing to donate something for our raffles and silent auction items, please ask them to do so. If you would be willing to donate some new items for our raffle baskets, please do.
- You could sponsor a hole. Please see this link for more information https://eplatinumhealth.com/ms-golf-outing/
- You could golf with us. In the past, we’ve filled up each year. This year we are about half full at this point. Here’s the link https://eplatinumhealth.com/ms-golf-outing/ I know last year some of you wanted to golf but it was already full so I would suggest signing up now if you want to golf.
- We will also need a few volunteers. We will let you know what need for volunteering as we get closer
Please help us get some really nice and fun raffle / silent auction items. We will have a list of items desired at the gym in the near future. We want to make this a great experience for the golfers again this year. Thanks so much!
Day of Endurance – Saturday, August 23rd 2025
I hope your training is going well. I know some are hitting it hard already and are well ahead of what they were doing last year at this time…good job! We get out of it what we put into it. Please turn your progress notes into Dr Kate bi-weekly.
Let’s make this journey and experience the best yet and have some fun…together. As we begin our training, let’s enjoy each day and record what we do on the packet we put together for you. If you didn’t get a packet, please see Dr Kate or me for your packet. We’re trying to make it really easy for you to record what you’re doing on a daily basis. These will be interesting for you to look back at a year from now. Hopefully, you can do more next year than you do this year.
Remember, try to do daily workouts and just one LONG workout each week. It’s on the one long day that you want to do just a little better than the week before and gradually build up each week.
Ed and Adam’s Podcast
Adam and Ed didn’t do a podcast last week. Here’s the link from the week before in case you want to listen to it again.

Thanks Adam, Ed and Ava for doing these podcasts together!
Member Spotlight – Jason Shanks
Many of us have been wondering where has Jason been? Jason let me know he would be doing a study at Marquette University on walking and balance. This was an intense study and a big commitment. It was good to see him back last week and doing so well. It’s great that Jason is engaging in this research opportunity. A much larger community will benefit from the results of this study. Good to have you back Jason!

It looks like it’s going to be a little cold and rainy again this week. We will not be riding this Friday morning…hopefully next Friday morning.
If you’re interested in riding this year, please let me or Larry know. If you rode with us in the past on a trike, please let us know what number trike you rode on. We want to try to stay more consistent this year so we can get out of the parking lot earlier with minimal trike adjustments.

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here on Wednesdays doing Thai Massage.
There is a sign-up board to be used to accommodate your needs for your exercise plan. Some people with spasticity need to be massaged / stretched out before they can exercise. Some people need a massage after a hard workout to loosen up their tight muscles or relieve pain.
We have limited spots for massages, please be considerate of people that need the massage the most in order to do the exercises they need to do or recover from the exercises they just did.
You can pick the time slot that works for you.
Reiki on Wednesdays and Fridays
Reiki is available at the gym, for FREE, on Wednesdays (Mary B, Jill K) and on Fridays (Linda C and Mary R), 9:30am until noon. Sessions typically last 20-30 minutes. Sign up for a session on the white board.
Reiki (ray-kee) relaxes the body so that healing can occur! The “magic” of Reiki has helped some of our members with pain, insomnia, constipation, and so much more! Try it the next time you are at the gym!

I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone. Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing. We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.
MS is tough. Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.
Let’s keep moving, smiling and loving It helps!

P.S. I hope you had a nice Easter. I got up early Easter Sunday morning and went to the Pewaukee Lake boat ramp to see what the sunrise was going to be like. It happened to be a beautiful sunrise to start the day.
This past week, I was standing by the river watching the sunset with a muskrat nest in the foreground.
After I stood there for a while, a muskrat was swimming in and out of it. I stood there a little longer and a muskrat started swimming right toward me.
I couldn’t hardly believe it. The muskrat swam to a log right in front of me. It dried off a little, washed it’s face and headed back to the nest. Pretty cool. I didn’t realize they have orange teeth.
This pelican was kind of cute
This little black capped chickadee was pretty friendly as it didn’t seem to be afraid of me.
Just in case you need another turkey picture, here’s one I was able to capture this week. Need a new profile picture? Feel free to use it
Spring is a good time to get out in nature. The plants are starting to come back.
The flowers are starting to bloom
For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you. You are with me every time I’m out there. I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you. I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature. Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
