Friends,
Video Production – Rescheduled to next Wednesday 10/16/2024
Due to a family emergency of a person on the video producing team, they asked if we could re-schedule the video to next week. We are rescheduling.
Here’s the message I sent out last week with the new date:
Friends,
We need your cooperation next Wednesday as we create a professional video that will thank our donors and show them that we are putting their donations to good use. It will also be used to promote the gym to new donors, potential participants and other stakeholders. We will welcome a videographer team next Wednesday, Oct 16, all morning.
The end result will be a 2-2:30 min video that will feature several short interviews as well as footage several key things that can help visually “tell our story:”
“Shot list”:
- 7:30 am – 8:45 short interviews with Dr Kate, myself, Holly, Al (please Al!) and possibly more if time allows in the side room
- 8:45 – 9:15 reset lights in main gym
- 9:15 – 10 am close ups of people using various pieces of equipment
- 10-10:30 am cardio class (probably a “bird’s eye view from the balcony”
- 11 am 11:30 am- a special seated balance class
- 11:30 am – 12 pm- more close up shots of people on specific machinesIt will be important that he shows adaptive equipment such as the easy stand, grit chair, parallel bars, neubie e-sim, trampoline, trikes and more, so people viewing the video can understand that our equipment is unique — and is our “community”.
The videographer said our charcoal gray MS gym shirts would look great, so if you have one, please wear it. If not, please avoid white or black shirts as those are difficult for lighting.
Thanks for showing up and taking part in the classes next week Weds. It will be a fun morning!
Spoon Theory / Fatigue Management
Jennifer Kolesar – Springhetti PT from ProHealth provided a great presentation about the spoon theory and fatigue with MS. What it is and what we can do about it.
Jenn is a very gifted speaker / presenter and did an excellent job of getting people to share their experiences as they fight fatigue living with MS. It was a powerful and beneficial presentation.
Jennifer left us with some handouts at the gym. I hope this presentation and information helps you manage your fatigue in some way. Great presentation Jenn! Thank You!
How’s Kathleen Nonnamaker doing?
Kathleen has been a long-time volunteer and great friend to many of us at the gym.
She had to stop volunteering because she had to deal with multiple myeloma cancer. I often get asked “How’s Katheen doing?” Fortunately, she’s been blessed and is doing very well. As much as she wants to come back to the gym, her immune system is still sensitive so she’s refraining at this time. When the time is right, she’ll stop in for a visit.
Here’s a video Kathleen just made with ProHealthCare. Click the link to watch it.

It’s very inspiring. I just love how she’s looking at life…she has a great perspective. Thanks for being you and sharing your journey Kathleen!
Intensive Speech Program
Here’s a message from Katie Cording, Marquette University:
It was truly our pleasure to be able to engage with such a wonderful group and share some information about what we do. The gym/group was so inspiring to see. I’m going to attach a link to our website which lists all the information about our clinic:
https://www.marquette.edu/speech-pathology-audiology/speech-hearing-clinic/index.php
We have some info about the intensive program on the site, but we have an additional brochure that I’ve attached here.

In general, the intensive program runs 3 hours/day for 3 weeks. We have 2 sessions in each of the Fall and Spring semesters, and sometimes an additional session in the summer. Cost of the program is $3300.00, and we cannot bill third party payers (both because we utilize student clinicians and because intensive services currently don’t have a billing code). We would typically evaluate the patient the semester before their anticipated session. If there is interest in enrolling in the intensive program, it’s best to contact me directly. I’d send them some paperwork to complete to get a sense of their concerns/desired goals, and once that’s done and returned to me, we get them on our list.
We don’t do swallowing intervention here because we aren’t attached to a medical center. I’d recommend reaching out to a primary provider with those concerns for referral to an SLP attached to a medical system (Froedtert, Aurora, Ascension, ProHealth, etc.).
Please let me know if you have any additional questions and thank you again for the honor of speaking to the group.

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here on Wednesdays doing Thai Massage.
There is a sign up board to be used to accommodate your needs for your exercise plan. Some people with spasticity need to be massaged / stretched out before they can exercise. Some people need a massage after a hard workout to loosen up their tight muscles or relieve pain.
We have limited spots for massages, please be considerate of people that need the massage the most in order to do the exercises they need to do or recover from the exercises they just did.
You can pick the time slot that works for you.
Reiki with Linda and Mary Linda and Mary will be here on Fridays doing Reiki. Many people say their Reiki work is “magical”. We’re thankful for Linda and Mary for sharing their gifts and talents with us. Feel free to let them know you’d like to do Reiki with them. They also have a sign-up sheet.

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone. Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing. We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.
MS is tough. Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.
Let’s keep moving, smiling and loving 😊 It helps!
In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S. I had an interesting encounter with a hornet this week. I kept getting closer and closer. Yes, I finally got stung, right in the neck. It hurt for a couple days but it was worth getting the picture 😊
I also had an opportunity to see a spider eat a bee.
If you get out in the woods this time of the year, the mushrooms are growing nicely
The colors are also vibrant this time of the years. Especially right at sunset when I took this picture.
The milkweed seeds are ending up in all kinds of spots
This hosta plant caught my eye early in the morning. It had some nice lines and curves.
This Sandhill Crane shook it’s feathers out nicely for me.
Here’s a crane feather with some nice light
I went for a walk with my daughter Sam at Frame Park in Waukesha. This colorful tree caught my eye.
For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you. You are with me every time I’m out there. I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you. I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature. Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
