Wednesday and Friday Workouts, ‘Thank You, Dr Kate Habanek’!

Friends,

Z-Health Balance Gym demo – Dr Kate Habanek
Dr Kate Habanek did another amazing presentation on how information enters through our eyes, goes to the brain to get sorted out, goes to the vestibular system connected to ears and affects balance, etc.  Dr Kate went a little deeper into the vestibular exercises we can do ourselves, led us through them and taught us more about the Z Health balance gym program.

Dr Kate was kind enough to share her slides from the presentation last week.  Here’s a link to her slides.  Z health.pdf

Here’s a link to the program  https://zhealtheducation.com/product/the-balance-gym/#:~:text=This%20program%20combines%20cutting%2Dedge,and%20unlock%20your%20true%20potential.&text=It’s%20Worth%20%244%2C900)-,Dr.,%2C%20athletes%2C%20and%20individuals%20worldwide.

When Dr Kate was here the first time, she made me realize “why” I’ve been making such life changing progress with MS and being able to handle high stimulus events without my MS flaring up so much.  There are so many rebounding exercises that incorporate so many vestibular exercises by default of doing them consistently with lots of repetition.  MS likes and responds well to repetition and high cardio exercises.  Our joints like low impact.  I believe that combination on the Bellicons is why we are seeing so many people making such life changing progress right now.

I’m really excited and thankful that Dr Kate Habanek came and did a presentation with hands on demonstrations so all of us could try it and experience it.  These vestibular exercises are exercises that everyone with MS can do even if they’re in a wheelchair.  It’s a little more challenging for those with tremors that can barely see but even they can do them with a little help.  Thank you, Dr Kate for coming by us again and sharing your knowledge and gifts.  We are very fortunate to have you join us.

If anyone wants to contact Dr Kate and work with her individually at her office, I would highly encourage it.  Here’s her contact information:

Golf Outing – June 20th – We need your help
Our golf outing planning with our friends at ePlatinum Health is in full swing.  This golf outing is a lot of fun and it’s our largest fundraising event of the year.  We are very fortunate and thankful to have our friends at ePlatinum Health putting this on for us.

How can you help?

Location and time:
June 20th, 2025
Wanaki Golf Course – Menomonee Falls
Registration – 7:30-9:00 am
Golfing – 9:00am

Please help us get some really nice and fun raffle and silent auction items.  We will have a list of items desired at the gym in the near future.  If you’re willing to be on the planning committee, please let me know.  We want to make this a great experience for the golfers again this year.  Thanks so much!

Day of Endurance Training
I hope your training is going well.  I know some are hitting it hard already and are well ahead of what they were doing last year at this time…good job!  We get out of it what we put into it.  Please turn your progress notes into Dr Kate bi-weekly.

Let’s make this journey and experience the best yet and have some fun…together.  As we begin our training, let’s enjoy each day and record what we do on the packet we put together for you.  If you didn’t get a packet, please see Dr Kate or me for your packet.  We’re trying to make it really easy for you to record what you’re doing on a daily basis.  These will be interesting for you to look back at a year from now.  Hopefully, you can do more next year than you can this year.

Remember, try to do daily workouts and just one LONG workout each week.  It’s on the one long day that you want to do just a little better than the week before and gradually build up each week.

Ed and Adam’s Podcast
This week, Adam and Ed had a second conversation with Matt Panelli about his experience reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro and his way back down the mountain.  Thanks for sharing Matt!

If you’re interested in riding this year, please let me or Larry know.  If you rode with us in the past on a trike, please let us know what number trike you rode on.  We want to try to stay more consistent this year so we can get out of the parking lot earlier with minimal trike adjustments.

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here on Wednesdays doing Thai Massage.

There is a sign-up board to be used to accommodate your needs for your exercise plan.  Some people with spasticity need to be massaged / stretched out before they can exercise.  Some people need a massage after a hard workout to loosen up their tight muscles or relieve pain.

We have limited spots for massages, please be considerate of people that need the massage the most in order to do the exercises they need to do or recover from the exercises they just did.

You can pick the time slot that works for you.

Reiki on Wednesdays and Fridays
Reiki is available at the gym, for FREE, on Wednesdays (Mary B, Jill K) and on Fridays (Linda C and Mary R), 9:30am until noon. Sessions typically last 20-30 minutes. Sign up for a session on the white board.

Reiki (ray-kee) relaxes the body so that healing can occur! The “magic” of Reiki has helped some of our members with pain, insomnia, constipation, and so much more! Try it the next time you are at the gym!

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices and take action.

Let’s keep moving, smiling and loving 😊  It helps!

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.   This past week I had quite a few critters being active in our backyard.  This crane seemed excited to see a black squirrel jumping into our birdbath.  It seems like all the critters like water.

This sandhill crane took off into the sunset

This one got wet in the rain

This turkey was pretty proud of himself.

Here’s a nice close up.  He sure is beautiful, isn’t he?

I guess when we feed the birds, we feed the squirrels.  Just as we do whatever we need to do to stay ahead of our MS, they do whatever they need to do to get to the bird food.

It’s nice to see the spring flowers starting to bloom

I saw my first turtle of the year at Lapham Peak yesterday.

It was fun watching this duck take off

And then watch it fly to the other side of the pond

We saw some deer before we left

It was a good day 😊

For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I’m out there.  I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
