Friends,

Last week, it was awesome to have so many people from the National MS Society visiting us.  I just love the energy they have for all of us living with MS and all they’re doing for us.  Thank you to all from the National MS Society for visiting and supporting us along with Prof. Robert Motl from UIC College of Applied Health Sciences.
Danelle O’Neill, our Wisconsin Chapter President is moving to Texas.  We are going to miss Danelle here in Wisconsin but I just received an e-mail from her today that she will still be with the National MS Society in a different role.  Congratulations Danelle!  I’m happy to hear you’ll still be following your passion and working for all of us with the National MS Society.

It was awesome to see good friends spending quality time together on Good Friday.  Mike and Ed sure bring a special spirit to our group don’t they?

Luther experienced a great feeling of freedom last week along with lots of encouragment from his friends as he made some laps in the gym.

We’re looking forward to riding outside with you soon Luther!

It’s good to see Marlene getting ready to ride with us on Friday mornings.  Yes, it took a little persuasion because she didn’t want to use a trike that someone else could be using.  Let’s ride Marlene!

For all of you who would really like to ride but can’t ride quite yet; please know you’re a big reason we are riding with those who can.  I have you on my mind and in my heart each time we ride.  Whether you realize it or not, you “are” riding with us.  We are certainly riding with you and for you.  I hope you too can join us soon.

Friday Morning Bike Rides
I was hoping to be able to start our Friday morning bike rides this Friday.  Our low limit for temperature is 45 degrees.  It looks like this Friday morning will be 39 degrees and a good chance for rain.  Let’s wait another week and see what the weather is like.  We want you to enjoy the ride.  If it’s nice when we’re at the gym, we can take some short practice rides through the industrial park.

Ricky and Donna have been making progress with Donna’s arm moving again the past two weeks.  Amazing!
Donna was not only able to touch her nose again, she was touching her hair.  It’s been a while, hasn’t it Donna?  Let’s continue to work with Donna and hope repetition helps her keep her arm moving.

Nice job Ricky!  Another miracle.  It’s awesome Donna was able to do this two weeks in a row.  If anyone wants to arm wrestle with Donna, I think she’s up for the challenge.  It will be good for her as well.

Once again, for all of us living with MS, consistency is key.  Our bodies like and need LOTS of repetition to make lasting progress.

A huge thank you goes out to all who brought grocery bags in for mats for the homeless.  Jim Wuhrmann, who is separating, cutting and looping the bags together so others can crochette them, brought a completed mat in to show us what they look like.

You can check it out this week at the gym.  It’s incredible that people are contributing hours and hours of their time preparing the bags and crocheting the mats.  They’re certainly going to a great cause and helping homeless people be more comfortable.  Thanks again to all who are contributing!

An update on our golf outing on Friday, June 10th:

Tee’d Off At MS Golf Outing fundraiser update: So far we have 16 golf hole sponsors and over 120 golfers signed up.  That’s amazing!  A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who are helping plan and contributing to this event.  I feel it’s going to be an awesome and memorable experience in so many ways.

We still need items, services or events to raffle or auction off.  If you know of any individuals, businesses or services who are willing to donate to the golf outing please let us know and bring any item to the gym with its accompanying value.  There will be donor golf outing information flyers available at the gym you can use when asking for donations.  We’ll need all items in by June 1.

Nutrition Program – Keep in mind our nutrition program with Alison will be starting Friday, April 29th

Bike Fitting
If you haven’t been fit for a trike or a bike yet for our Friday morning rides, let’s get that done this week.  If you’re going to wear clip in shoes, please bring your shoes to the gym so we can get your bike set up for you.  We will be doing our best to have the same person riding the same bike each week this year.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to get them hooked up and get riding a little more swiftly every Friday morning.

COVID numbers are starting to go back up locally.  We have a couple people staying home last week and this week due to exposure.  I’m still highly encouraging each of us to be socially responsible and help keep us all safe.  I’m highly encouraging you to wear a mask when you’re in close proximity to someone else; whether you’ve been vaccinated or not.  We’ve all been dealing with this long enough and are very well educated on it by now.  Let’s make good choices and be safe.

Please stay home if you have any symptoms or know you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus.  Please don’t come until your symptoms go away.  Let’s also give each other some space when talking to one another and continue wiping the machines down before and after you use them with disinfectant.  Again…let’s be socially responsible and stay safe!

We’ll be getting together again from 9:00am – noon on Wednesday and Friday mornings at the gym.  I hope you’ll join us!

Tai Massage with Ricky Heldt  Ricky will be here Wednesday and Friday again this week doing Tai Massage.  Ricky says he is comfortable to work with you even if you’re not wearing a mask.  Ricky will continue to wear one to protect you.

Many continue making great progress with chronic pain relief, range of motion, walking better and a new sense of hope when Ricky works with them.  Please keep in mind that consistency is key.  Not only with Ricky…with exercise too.  We need consistency to realize the benefits long term.  We want you to have long term relief.

Ricky has a sign up sheet based on first come first serve.  You can pick the time slot that works for you.  I highly encourage you to take advantage of Ricky’s Tai Massages each day and sign up for your time slot as soon as you get there.

Reiki with Linda  Linda will be here on Fridays doing Reiki.  Many people say Linda’s Reiki work is “magical”.  We’re thankful for Linda offering her gifts and talents to us.

Feel free to let Linda know you’d like to do Reiki with her.  She also has a sign up sheet.

MS-Just Keep Sharing  We’ll be having our sharing group in person this Wednesday @ 11:00am.

I just love the way we share, pray together and witness prayers being answered weekly.  Thanks goes to God and to everyone that joins us.  Let’sget together to share, listen, talk, give thanks and pray however God leads us.

We’ll be having our inspirational humor zoom call with Adam again next Tuesday.  Adam is a gift to all of us.  Please join us if you can.

I encourage you to share a smile with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you haven’t talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they’re doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let’s have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices.

Let’s keep moving and smiling 😊

In God We Trust…we’re in good hands

P.S.  We had some interesting weather this week.  Here’s a picture of a few deer in our neighborhood on Sunday evening.  Looks like spring, right?

Here’s the very next morning in our yard.  It’s amazing how much can change overnight.

I love how well the deer and the birds are getting along; although I do think the deer wishes he could have what the birds have.

I love being able to capture the critters out our window with the camera and sharing them with you.
