Friends,

I have a lot of important information in this e-mail.  Please read it carefully…thanks!  I’m sorry it’s so late getting out.  It took me a long time to write it.

We’ll be getting together again from 9:00am – noon on Wednesday and Friday at the gym.  I hope you’ll join us!  We might be light on volunteers this week so if you could help or know someone that could help, please join us.

We realize the virus is not gone yet.  In fact, the numbers are going way up rapidly again.  Many of us have either had COVID or have been vaccinated.  We’re leaving wearing a mask up to you to make good decisions.  If you have concerns, please wear a mask.  Either way, please be respectful.  Thank you for being so understanding, cooperative and respectful through this entire pandemic.  I’m thankful we’re getting through it.

One of the most important things you can do is to stay home if you have any symptoms or know you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus.  Please don’t come until your symptoms go away.  Let’s also give each other some space when talking to one another and continue wiping the machines down before and after you use them with disinfectant.  Let’s stay safe!

As we all know, we lost our good friend Paulette in December to a heart attack.  Paulette always brought her amazing spirit, wit and sense of humor with her despite her challenges with MS.  She volunteered her time and talents in so many ways.  We sure miss Paulette!

She passed December 29, 2020.  Here’s link to her obituary https://www.gmtoday.com/obituaries/waukesha/2021/paulette-j-lamountain/article_3388a06c-668e-11eb-95d8-8ba73516ca4b.html

A memorial service for Paulette will be held this Saturday.  Unfortunately, many of us will not be able to attend due to riding the MS Bike ride.  Perhaps some of you that are not riding the MS Bike ride could go and share our love.  Here’s the information that Mary and Jerry Arata supplied:

The memorial service for our friend Paulette LaMountain is this Saturday, August 7th, at 2pm.

.It is being held at:    St.Peter’s Episcopal Church
7929 W LINCOLN AVE
West Allis.     53219
It is on the corner of Lincoln and 80th.

The service will be for four church members who died during the Pandemic.

Her interment will be held at ST. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Pewaukee, near intersection of Watertown RD and Hwy 164.  It is tentatively on Aug 14th or 15th.  More details to follow.  It will be just a 15 min service there.   She is being buried with her parents.

Her good friends Michael and Ilse Frayer are taking care of her affairs.  If you have questions, their number is
262-786-9338.   Both Linda and I talked to Ilse and told her that it was a big day for us Peppy Pedaler’s.  If someone is able to attend, try to find them and give them our sympathies.

Dr Ng from Marquette University is looking for more participants in an exercise study.  This is a really good program.  I know Sue S and Laura have both gone through it and speak highly of it.  They both made personal progress in many ways too.  You could ask them about their experience.  I’ve attached a brochure with more information.

Dr Ng and his wife Carol will be riding on our Peppy Pedaler’s team this weekend.  Thanks for riding with us Dr Ng and Carol!  Thanks also for doing all the research you do for all of us living with MS.  In my mind, exercise research is an extremely good topic to research.  For me personally, exercise gave me my mobility back and improved my quality of life immensely.

Traci’s son Austin, who is a childhood cancer survivor will be putting a bike team to ride the Kids Cancer Trek Ride on August 21st.

Here’s a message from Traci encouraging and inviting us to ride with Austin:

I thought others might like to join Team Austin

We are so proud of Austin!  He has created Team Austin for the 2021 Kids Cancer Trek Ride August 21st.  As a survivor, he is very motivated to get out there and ride for others and a great cause!  Please join us!

I hope some of us can ride with Austin and also support him on the ride!

Speaking of bike rides, I asked everyone at last Friday’s ride if they wanted to ride this Friday before the MS bike ride on Saturday or rest.  Yes, I actually gave them a choice.  It made me smile when the answer was unaminously…let’s ride!  That makes me happy 😊.  It’s fun to ride with such a determined and highly motivated group of friends.  It was fun having Sarah and Shaun with us for their first ride of the season and Adam for his second ride of the season.

Susie had her first ride on her brand new bike!  Ask her what these Friday morning rides mean to her.  She’s another inspirational person we have the privledge to know and ride with.

Al did a great job of being the captain of the train with Kelly and Donna last week.  Ginger sure loves riding with them too and keeps right up.  Susie looks great riding behind them too, doesn’t she?  What a beautiful morning with beautiful people!

It looks like we should have nice weather for our Friday morning bike ride again this week.  I hope you’ll join us!

We’ll be meeting Friday morning at 7:00am at Nettesheim Park in Pewaukee.  It’s on the SE corner of Hwy SS and Oak Street.  The GPS address is: N26W27495 Prospect Ave, Pewaukee, WI 53072.  Come a little early so you can get your bike out of your car and be ready to ride as close to 7:00 as possible.  We’ll ride until about 8:45.

If you need me to bring a trike or a tandem for you, please let me know as soon as you can so I can bring them.

If you’d like to ride but don’t know how you’d do it, please let me know.  We’ll do our best to figure out a way to get you riding.  We get pretty creative😊.

The National MS Society’s MS Bike ride is this weekend…August 7th.  Our Peppy Pedalers Team is ready to ride!

  • We now have 79 people signed up on our team.  I’m thankful for all of them!
  • We have 13 people with MS riding on our team.  To me, that’s amazing!
  • We’ve raised $62,934.00 so far.  Wow! – A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who are fund raising and all who have donated.  We really need to get this MS thing figured out.  Every dollar helps!
  • We’re also manning a Peppy Pedaler’s rest area on the ride.  We could still use a few more volunteers if you’re willing to help.
  • If you’d like to bounce from rest area to rest area to cheer us on, here are links to the routes

The National MS Society funds critical research and programs for all of us living with MS.  Let’s do our part by riding in the ride together and inviting our families and friends to join us.  For all of you who wish they could ride but can’t, we’re riding for you!

Ricky Heldt will be here on Wednesday and Friday again this week doing Tai Massage.  Many of you have reported making great progress with chronic pain relief, range of motion, walking better and a new sense of hope.  Please keep in mind that consistency is key.  We need consistency to realize the benefits long term.  That’s why we’re having Ricky here both Wednesday and Friday mornings.  We want you to have long term relief.  Ricky will have a sign up sheet based on first come first served.  You can pick the time slot that works for you.  I highly encourage you to take advantage of Ricky’s Tai Massages each day and sign up for your time slot as soon as you get there.

Last week, our prayer group was once again…powerful!  I just love the way we share, pray together and witness prayers being answered weekly.  Thanks goes to God and to everyone that joins us.

Our prayer group will be in person at the gym as well as on zoom this week at 11:00am on Wednesday.  We’ll get together and share, talk, listen, give thanks and pray however God leads us.

I encourage you to share a smile with someone.  Perhaps you could give someone a call that you haven’t talked with for a while just to see how they’re doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement during these times.

MS is tough.  Let’s stay calm, focused, healthy, flexible, have faith and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices.  Better days are ahead.

In God We Trust!
Dan
