Friends,
Check out our fresh paint!
Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday some of our friends with MS and a volunteer or two cleaned the front room, took everything off the walls, scrubbed the walls, repainted the walls and put the room all back together.  It looks awesome!

A huge thank you goes out to all that helped with this!  I know I can speak for everyone that comes to the gym…we appreciate it!

Fall Cleaning Day this Saturday
We will be having a fall cleaning day of the gym this Saturday from 8:00am – noon.  If you’re available and willing to help, we would appreciate it.  We’ll be wiping down all the machines, scrubbing the floors, walls etc.  We’ll be having some fun too!  I’m not sure what that will look like yet, I just thought I would throw it in there. 😊  If you’re able and willing, please join us!

Zip Lining – Who would have thought?
I always love it when people do things together.  For some reason, it warms my heart when people from our MS-Just Keep Moving family get together and do things together outside the gym.

Last week, Shelley shared with me that a group of friends from the gym got together and went zip lining.  That certainly wasn’t in my vision when we started getting together 10+ years ago.  I guess that’s just another example of the good Lord bringing us together in ways we didn’t see coming.

I like how they’re all using each other instead of their walkers to hold each other up for this picture.  Nice!  There are more pics on our Facebook page…link below.

I love it when friendships are being built and nurtured at this level!

Dr Obeidat gave a nice presentation
Dr Obedeit gave a nice presentation last Friday about MS and some of the improvements that are being made from a medical perspective.

I loved it when he talked about all the other things we can do to stay ahead of our MS.  I was very proud to see that other than getting on the right medications early (we leave this up to doctors), this group checks all the rest of the boxes and then some.

The disheartening part of his presentation for me was when he talked about people doing all the right things, their MRI’s are stable, they’re on the right medication and yet the disease continues to progress.  I love how honest he was about this and how he encouraged us to keep doing what we’re doing.  I sure hope the people who aren’t coming anymore because it’s just too hard to get here find a way to get here.  We miss you!  MS is still MS…we need to get it figured out.  Let’s keep doing our part.

Our 3rd Annual Open House – Saturday, November 4th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.  We will have an exciting program from 3:00 – 4:00pm.

We could use your help inviting people to our open house.  We have an invitation printed out and will have them at the gym tomorrow.  If each of us could invite people that would appreciate what we’re doing, perhaps we could inspire more people to engage in our mission at some level and support us.  We would certainly appreciate more volunteers as well as financial support so we can continue doing all we’re doing for free for our friends with MS.

Please plan on coming to the open house and bringing your family and friends.  Let’s share how much fun we have each week.

Dance Programs starting back up this Friday
Dr Alex Ng from Marquette University is starting the fall dance program back up this Friday.  I know many of you really enjoyed this program this past spring.  I hope everyone returns and helps recruit more for this program.

When Dr Ng came to the gym and presented the results of his dance study for MS; he shared many ways dance proved to be helpful for us living with MS.  I was inspired by how his study proved to help people cognitively with memory challenges, balance, movement, socializing, etc.

I hope you’ll engage in this opportunity and have some fun doing it.

Cardio and Balance Programs
These classes are aimed to get everyone exercising together. We’ll need help from volunteers before and after the cardio class on Wednesday to get members on and off equipment. All are welcome and encouraged to join.

Wednesdays  10-10:30am: Cardio exercise

Pick your favorite piece of equipment to use, bring a water bottle, and arrive a few minutes early to get the equipment set up to your height.

Fridays: balance training and core strengthening
10-10:30 am: seated balance class
10:30 – 11am: standing balance class
Pick the class / classes you feel most able and comfortable participating in. We will have chairs set up to sit on and/or use for balance support.

Email Kate at kborn1234@gmail.com with any questions.

Friday Morning Bike Ride
It looks like the weather is not going to cooperate for riding bike this Friday.  If the forecast is right, it looks like it will be cold and raining.  Not a good combination for riding bike.

We will not be riding this Friday.  Hopefully we will have better weather next week.

Our Bryant Stratton PT Assistant students are here on Wednesdays
We all love it when Dr. Sarah Andreucci, Dr McKenzie Dekker, Dr Becky Thomas and the PT Assistant students from Bryant Stratton College join us.  They will be joining us on Wednesdays for this next semester.

They be with us for three more weeks this semester.

Let’s learn from them and help them learn about MS from us.  Thank you so much to Dr Sarah, Dr McKenzie, Dr Becky and all the students!

Educational Sessions

This Friday, October 13th: Balance vest tutorial from physical therapists at ProHealth, Waukesha. 11:00am – noon.  They will be demonstrating the BalanceWear balance vest on some of our friends with MS.  Give it a try and see if it helps you.

Wednesday, October 18th – Joy Cochran – 9:00am – 10:00am.  Demonstrations on using Nordic Walking Poles.  Joy has been here before and many people benefited from her demonstrations and were able to try the poles themselves.  I personally use Nordic Walking Poles when I go on my long walks.  That way I get a core and upper body workout while I’m walking.

Friday, October 20th – To be determined

Saturday, November 4th   2:00 – 5:00pm.  MS-Just Keep Moving Open House

Friday, November 10th  11:00am – Noon.  Mitra Rouhani from Marquette University here to present on Red Light Therapy

Future topics could include: emotional health, nutrition, yoga, tai chi, wellness topics, safe use of gym equipment for your body, best exercise for you and more.  What topics would you like to see?  Please let Joan, Traci, Ricky or Dan know

 Let’s get together!
We’ll be getting together from 9:00am – noon on Wednesday and Friday mornings at the gym.  I hope you’ll join us!

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here Wednesday and Friday doing Thai Massage.

Many continue making great progress with chronic pain relief, range of motion, walking better and a new sense of hope when Ricky works with them.  Please keep in mind that consistency is key.  Not only with Ricky…with exercise too.  We need consistency to realize the benefits long term.  We want you to have long term benefits and relief.

Ricky has a sign up board based on first come first serve.  You can pick the time slot that works for you.  I highly encourage you to take advantage of Ricky’s Thai Massages each day and sign up for your time slot as soon as you get there.

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let us have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices.

Let’s keep moving and smiling 😊

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.  We’ve been having some awesome sunrises and sunsets this past week.  I’ve trying to capture some of the beauty but I’m either getting rusty or my camera wasn’t capturing the beauty properly.  They were much more beautiful in person than I could capture with the camera.

This was an early morning sunrise on Sunday morning.  I just decided to go for a ride with the camera at 6:00am and had to stop for this one on the frontage road by I-94 and SS.  I like the bank of clouds on the horizon.

Then I went to the boat launch on Pewaukee Lake.  It looked like a nice morning to be out on the lake.

Once the sun came up a little higher, it was got harder to capture the beauty on camera.  I think I did ok on this one.

As you know, sometimes I take my little wooden cross with me to add a little spirit to the sunrises and sunsets.  This one didn’t turn out the best but it’s still interesting with the cross on the pole.

I tried 😊

Sunday evening, we had this sunset in our backyard.  I love our sunsets.

Last night I went to Lapham Peak.  I didn’t get any sunset pictures because my battery went dead on my camera (my fault) but I did get a picture of this little guy before my battery died.

For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I’m out there.  I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
