Friends,
How do you motivate Al?
All it takes is Captain Morgan and a cookie😊

Captain Morgan is one of the students from Bryant Stratton College.  We have been so fortunate to have them with us this past semester again.  I was wrong last week when I said they had three weeks left.  It was only two weeks and since last week was one of those, that means tomorrow is their last day here until spring.

Let’s be sure to thank the students and their leaders for joining us again this semester.  We are always sad to see them go on to the next phase of their education.  Let’s wish them all the best!  This has been a great group of students.  I’m confident we have made an impact in their life as much as they have made an impact in ours.  When I see hardworking young people like these students, it gives me confidence we’re in good hands with this generation of young people.  They have big heartsand share lots of love with passion.

BalanceWear demonstration last Friday
I must say, I was really impressed with the BalanceWear educational program and demonstration that PT’s Kim and Jennifer from ProHealth did last Friday.

Thank you Lisa for volunteering to demo this with them.

There are handouts of the program and information about the technology at the gym on the white table.  If you didn’t see the demonstration, ask Lisa or someone that was there about it.  I’m not sure how it works but it certainly seemed to work well for Lisa.  Kim and Jennifer’s contact information is also on the handouts.

A big thanks goes out to Joe Boppre for bringing us all together with Jennifer and Kim.

Fall Cleaning Day Last Saturday
A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who helped clean last week and last Saturday.  Between the painting crew the past couple weeks and the cleaning crew last Saturday, I think we had about 20 people helping out.  I am thankful!

The crew pretty much went all the way through the gym.  All the machines got wiped down, the floors all got swept, mopped and scrubbed.  The windows, some of the duct work and walls even got cleaned.  Everyone worked hard and together.  It was fun and gratifying.

This is a picture of only some of our cleaners.  The rest either did it during the week or left before we took the picture.  I again…I really appreciate the help!  We all do…Thank You!

Let’s enjoy our clean gym 😊

Our 3rd Annual Open House – Saturday, November 4th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.  We will have an exciting program from 3:00 – 4:00pm.

Are you willing to help us?  We could use your help inviting people to our open house.  We have an invitation printed out and will have them at the gym tomorrow.  If each of us could invite people that would appreciate what we’re doing, perhaps we could inspire more people to engage in our mission at some level and support us.  We would certainly appreciate more volunteers as well as financial support so we can continue doing all we’re doing for “free” for our friends with MS.

Please help us pass the word…thanks so much!

Please plan on coming to the open house and bringing your family and friends.  Let’s share how much fun we have each week.

Picture Wall is being updated
Our MS-Just Keep Moving family continues to grow.  Since we painted the front room, we will be updating our picture board.  If your picture is not up there or you want to update your picture, please see Linda Catterson.  Linda will have her camera this Friday, October 20th and next Wednesday, October 25th.  This goes for our friends with MS as well as our volunteers.

Dance Programs
Dr Alex Ng from Marquette University is starting the fall dance program.  I know many of you really enjoyed this program this past spring.  I hope everyone returns and helps recruit more for this program.

When Dr Ng came to the gym and presented the results of his dance study for MS; he shared many ways dance proved to be helpful for us living with MS.  I was inspired by how his study proved to help people cognitively with memory challenges, balance, movement, socializing, etc.

Here’s a messgae from Dr Ng:
Join us at the No-Fall Ball to be held November 11 at Danceworks!  Leading up to this will be a series of 1 hr social/ballroom dance workshops.  These events are no-cost for persons with MS, and their family or friends.   What better way to have fun, while improving balance, endurance, and even cognition.  So grab a partner, or come by yourself to any of these events this fall.
Thanks!  Hope to see you soon.
Take care,
Alex

I hope you’ll engage in this opportunity and have some fun doing it.

Friday Morning Bike Ride
Let’s ride!
It looks like it will be a little chilly this Friday morning but we will still ride.  It’ll warm up as we’re riding.  Please dress warm.  We should have a nice sunrise ride since the sunrise is at 7:12am.

The extended forecast for next week looks like it will be 32 degrees.  This Friday will probably be our last ride of the season.  I know, none of us like to hear that.  We need to be thankful for the awesome season we had of riding together.  Spring will be here soon…let’s think spring! 😊

Let’s meet Friday morning at 6:45 and be ready to ride by 7:00am at Nettesheim Park in Pewaukee.  It’s on the SE corner of Hwy SS and Oak Street.  The GPS address is:  N26W27495 Prospect Ave, Pewaukee, WI 53072.

Again, for those of you who wish you could join us but can’t; please know we have you in our hearts on these rides.  We’re riding with you and for you.  I hope you too can join us someday.  We really need to get this MS thing figured out.  Let’s keep working on it together.

Educational Sessions

Wednesday, October 18th – Joy Cochran – 9:00am – 10:00am.  Demonstrations on using Nordic Walking Poles.  Joy has been here before and many people benefited from her demonstrations and were able to try the poles themselves.  I personally use Nordic Walking Poles when I go on my long walks.  That way I get a core and upper body workout while I’m walking.

Friday, October 20th – To be determined

Saturday, October 21stDr Obeidat has an MS educational program at the Italian Community Center.  There’s information about it at the gym and on our Facebook page.  I hope to see you there.

Saturday, November 4th   2:00 – 5:00pm.  MS-Just Keep Moving Open House

Friday, November 10th  11:00am – Noon.  Mitra Rouhani from Marquette University here to present on Red Light Therapy

Future topics could include: emotional health, nutrition, yoga, tai chi, wellness topics, safe use of gym equipment for your body, best exercise for you and more.  What topics would you like to see?  Please let Joan, Traci, Ricky or Dan know

 Let’s get together!

Thai Massage with Ricky Heldt
Ricky will be here Wednesday and Friday doing Thai Massage.

Many continue making great progress with chronic pain relief, range of motion, walking better and a new sense of hope when Ricky works with them.  Please keep in mind that consistency is key.  Not only with Ricky…with exercise too.  We need consistency to realize the benefits long term.  We want you to have long term benefits and relief.

Ricky has a sign up board based on first come first serve.  You can pick the time slot that works for you.  I highly encourage you to take advantage of Ricky’s Thai Massages each day and sign up for your time slot as soon as you get there.

Reiki with Linda

Let’s reach out
I encourage you to share a smile and encouragement with someone.  Perhaps you could call someone that you have not talked with for a while just to say hi and see how they are doing.  We all could use a little extra love and encouragement.

MS is tough.  Let us have faith, remain calm, be flexible, help each other and learn as much as we can about the challenges of each day as we make good choices.

Let’s keep moving and smiling 😊

In God We Trust…we are in good hands.

P.S.  I had some fun with the camera again this past week.  I went for a walk in Nashotah Park again on Sunday.  This little American Red Squirrel wanted his picture taken early in my walk.

When the acorns are falling off the trees, you can find some interesting pictures in the woods.

The recent rain and high winds we had last Friday created some really interesting clumps of colorful leaves on the ground.  Usually, they fall one at a time.

I’m not sure what to think of this plant.  It looked interesting so I took a picture of it 😊

This little squirrel was trying to hide from me.  I saw him through the leaves on the trees.

This one was playing peek-a-boo.

I saw an egret across the lake and was focusing on it.  All of a sudden, it decided to fly.  Made my day 😊

Did you ever see a stick eat a lily pad?  Gotta love the reflections.

The reflections of the sky were pretty awesome with the clouds that day

The ring-necked ducks are migrating.

The milkweeds are interesting this time of the year

It’s hard to believe you can go for a walk in the park and enjoy this much of God’s beauty on one walk.  This leaf caught my eye.  It reminded me of a cross living through some challenges in a beautiful way.

I’m going to end with just a little more of God’s beauty out in nature.

For those who can’t get out and enjoy nature due your challenges with MS…my heart is with you.  You are with me every time I’m out there.  I enjoy being out there and I also enjoy sharing with you.  I know how hard it is not to be able to get out and enjoy nature.  Let’s enjoy nature and God’s beauty together this way.
